Say Grace

I always say grace before I eat.  From now on before I say "Amen", I'm going to visualize Jennifer Hudson, and thank God for helping me make good food choices.  She is inspirational!

Totally Lovin'

Way Black When on TVOne

First up-Sinbad and a trip back to my favorite decade-the 70's.  I just watched the first installment, and even though the featured guests may not seem too exciting, I was riveted with the conversation, performances, and the memories they brought back.  Listening to them and how they viewed their craft and their contribution to the times........I'm all in for the month.  In the coming weeks, the 80's and 90's will be showcased also, so big ups to TVOne and this series.

Fashionable FLOTUS!

Michelle Obama came back in a big way tonight after a momentary lapse in style judgment as her husband delivered the State of the Union Address.

Fashionable FLOTUS?

Michelle Obama can do no wrong according to fashionistas everywhere. Yesterday was her time. I'll be curious to see what the buzz is on this dress. Anyone who honestly feels this was an appropriate choice, probably was the stylist for The Emperors New Clothes. The occasion was the funeral services for Sargent Shriver held in DC yesterday. Mrs. O is dressed to visit an area elementary school. Total fail. What do you think?

Happy Birthday Michelle Obama!

The First Lady is celebrating her 47th birthday today.  In honor of her and in observation of Dr. Martin Luther King's Day, do something that is of service to someone else today.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority 1908-2011

One cold day in 1908- January 15th to be specific- an elite group of top scholars, student athletes, and civic leaders gathered together in Miner Hall, on the prestigious campus of Howard University, in Washington, D.C. Though in the midst of post-slavery and gender discrimination, these young women of high scholastic and ethical standards obeyed the call on their lives and the vision set before them, to create something that had never existed before: an organization exclusively for college-trained women of color, dedicated to supreme service and sisterhood; known now and forever as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Happy Founder's Day to all my incredible Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Welcoming 2011!

We welcomed the arrival turn of this new year on our knees last night.  Being in church at the stroke of midnight in thanks, praise, and hopefulness is a powerful action.  It's always good to be surrounded by like minded people who love the Lord, and each other.  I'm blessed to have a church community that is not too big, and not too small-it's just right.

When we got home, champagne was waiting.

Now, on to dinner!  Hoppin' John (black-eyed peas and rice), stewed tomatoes, collard greens, potato salad, golden fried pork chops, and cornbread is on my menu today.  Hope you are enjoying a good meal (no more fried foods after today) surrounded by those you love.

Happy 2011!
